Like many others this year, I am working from home. Maybe I’ll have time for some blog updates, or poetry. I won’t promise to write one every day, but we’ll see how many I do get out.

You may regret following me.

Here’s a limerick to kick things off. Limericks are always an excellent choice.

This verse is neither, I fear
Particularly clever or clear
But as poetry goes
It certainly shows
You couldn’t do worse than start here.

I couldn’t come up with a title for this one

The ceremonies have been performed
The paperwork filed
The flowers have wilted
The casseroles are eaten
Family and friends have returned home
Clothing is boxed and sent to charity
Just one last task to perform
Blank cards waiting for the words
"Thank you for your kindness and sympathy"
Then the tasks will be done
Life will move on

The shadows of tree limbs
stretch bare fingered limbs
out across a rolling field
tinged gold
by the early light.
They reach across the hills
stretching for their kin
almost a mile away
then,
unable to reach across the hills
they slide back to their trees
retreating with the rising Sun
waiting
for a new dawn
to try again

Rising from the south pole,
Pushing the compass needle
Pointing
          north
                  is that
                            way
Dragging with it
  the charged particles
     blown off of the Sun
         that would strip our DNA
     of important atoms
  slamming them down
     into the air
         where they fluoresce
      in dancing lights
   and sing
in radio

It loops back down in the north
   passing through the Earth
        to rise again
           protecting us
        like a cocoon
   from the harsh
life giving Sun
