Career Profiles | American Astronomical Society.

A degree in astronomy might be nice, but what can you actually do with it? Most people start off with the idea that someday, they’ll become a professor of astronomy or astrophysics at a nice university somewhere. The reality is pretty different. Only about half the people who get undergrad degrees in astronomy go on to grad school, and less than a quarter of those who go to grad school actually become astrophysicists in academia.

So what else can you do with a degree in astrophysics?

Whatever you darn well please.

If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the AAS career profiles page.
