Poplar Seeds (poem) July 21, 2008

The thermometer reads 80, 
	but the poplar fluff looks like a blizzard
		swirling in pre-storm winds
Brilliant drifting stars flashing like novae
	drifting in and out of the shade 
		slanting through old maples
Chasing up and down the roadway
	following one car, then another
		like an ecstatic puppy.
The sunlight fades 
	rain comes pouring down
		seeds are beaten to the ground
But when the rain has passed
	the poplar will shed its seeds
		and the blizzard will begin again
